Freshen Up Any Room With an Indoor Garden

The Maids • Mar 08, 2013

Fresh plants are a great addition to a house. Not only do they liven up a room, add something fresh, and bring the feeling of spring a little early, they also freshen the air! If you pick the right kind of plants, it doesn't take much work to care for them, either. Herbs and cacti are both extremely easy to grow: some water, sunlight, and occasional house cleaning (just spray the leaves off in the sink to remove dust!) will keep your plants healthy and looking great. Apartment therapy has a few suggestions for potting, and here are some great tips for your indoor garden:

Standard Pots Won't Do

Traditional terra cotta pots have their moments of greatness, but try something different for a more stylish set-up.

There are lots of great ideas on the market, from oblong and boat-shaped pots to hanging pots and window planters.

If you're feeling exceptionally crafty, you can even find ways to make your own stylish, new planters!

Try Hanging

If you have kids or pets that won't stay out of plants, or if you just don't want to take up a surface, look into plant hangers. There are many different types—some hang from the wall, some hang from the roof, but if you get the right one, it will look like art in your house!

Group Up

Just like an outdoor garden is generally in one plot of land, make your indoor garden mirror that. Cluster the pots together on a surface to display. Try plants of different textures, heights, colors, and widths to get a dynamic garden really growing.

If you're looking for a pick-me-up in these last few weeks before spring, try adding an indoor garden to your home!
