Great DIY Storage Idea

The Maids • May 31, 2013

There’s always a need for a little bit of extra storage, and this is one of the easiest ideas to get some of your smaller things off the floor and onto the walls without needing to build shelves:

It’s hanging baskets, and there’s a lot you can do with them!

Shoe Storage

This idea comes from 2 Moms and a Blog and is a brilliant way to store kids shoes, especially during summer when slip-ons and flip-flops abound!

Find a basket that has mostly even sides all the way up (you don’t want it to flare out at the top).

  • Let your kids pick out scrapbook paper or fabric that they like.
  • Help them glue it to the bottom of the basket.
  • Once it’s dry, nail the bottom of the basket to the wall.

This will create a basket cubbie in which the kids can store their shoes!

Hanging Basket

These are great anywhere you have little odds and ends you’d like to put out of the way while still keeping them handy.

All you need are a couple of deeper baskets and some nails! Nail the backs of the baskets to the wall (you’ll want a nail on either side, not just one in the middle, for added stability).

Now, throw whatever you need into them! This would be a great way to store an extra roll of toilet paper or shampoo and conditioner high on the wall where you can reach them. In the kitchen it’s a great idea for holding large cooking spoons or potholders. There are so many ways to use them, you’ve probably already thought of one!
