How to Lose Those Hand Towel Odors

The Maids • Aug 30, 2013

A washing machine usually does an amazing job with cleaning, but why can't it get rid of that smell in your towels? You begin to think that your dryer will eliminate the odor, once the towels are dry. But suddenly, you discover that it didn't do the trick. Certainly, that didn't work too well so you decide to throw them in the trash, right? After all, you have too many other housekeeping tasks to squeeze into your time.

As time goes by, laundry detergent residue and fabric softener residue accumulate in the fabric itself. When washing your towels, those residues prevent water from penetrating effectively, leading to areas that do not get cleaned properly. Those areas develop an odor as time goes by, like the rust on a car that continues to grow.

There is certainly better way than throwing them out at the sign of sour-like smells. Why waste all that money when you don’t have to?

The first step calls for washing in hot water. However, include some vinegar (about 1 cup) to the machine for the first round. Exclusively use vinegar, considering that laundry room detergent or fabric softeners can restrict the performance results.

When completed, wash a second time with hot water. As previously included in the very first step, use no laundry soap or fabric softener in your second round. This time, add a half cup of baking soda into the load.

As soon as the washer stops, throw the restroom towels into your dryer. Upon completion of the drying cycle, you will get clean smelling rest room towels again!

Take note that if problems still persist, the washing machine is most likely at fault. To renew the washer, utilize clothes washer fresheners. Typically, washer fresheners are in tablet form and widely available at washing machine retailers. Make sure to follow the directions completely because this is not a normal load. Follow your manufacturer's guidelines to ensure no damage occurs to the machine. You can also usually find instructions for your washer on the manufacturer's website.
