Laundry Tips for People Who Don’t Like Laundry

The Maids • Dec 31, 2012

While there are those who actually look forward to washing clothes, most people fall in the neutral category, while almost as many fall in the can’t-stand-laundry group. How can you make laundry an easier part of your house cleaning and less of a hassle if you just don’t like laundry?

The problem with laundry is that it takes quite a bit of time to complete, from the time you sort the clothes until the moment you put them away in a drawer or closet, you do a lot of work! Streamlining that process will make it easier to get your laundry done with no problem.

Laundry Day

Set aside a day of the week just for laundry. Pick a day when you’re likely to be home for most of the day, or do your laundry on an evening when your favorite TV shows are on. Folding clothes is much more enjoyable when you something to watch or listen to as a distraction.

Giving yourself a day to do laundry will help keep you focused on the task at hand and leave the rest of the week blissfully laundry-free. Just make sure you stick to your laundry day every week!

Sort No More

This is one of those simple solutions that will make you wonder why you didn’t think of it sooner: have two dirty laundry baskets. Make one of them just for your whites and the other for your colors. When it’s time to wash clothes, you won’t have to sort—it’s already done!

Don’t Fold Socks and Underwear

If your mom’s voice is in your head right now telling you this is wrong, tell her to shush for just a minute. Socks and underwear inevitably unfold themselves in your drawer anyway, and matching socks it one of the most time-consuming parts of folding clothes. I won’t tell anyone you didn’t fold them!

The guys over at Lifehacker even suggest declaring “sock bankruptcy,” getting rid of all of your socks and buying new ones in bulk, ones that will match with each other no matter what. They might not know it yet, but this is the most brilliant idea for children’s socks ever mentioned on the internet.

Laundry is just one of those chores that’s hard to love, but with a few tips, you can push through! Keeping those linens clean will be especially helpful when your cleaning services hangs them up nice and fresh for you.
