Having an organized food pantry can offer many benefits, such as: utilizing available space better, making sure oldest items get used first, and avoiding spending money needlessly because of not knowing what you actually already have. Below are some tips for organizing your pantry.

Planning Ahead

A well-planned pantry is beneficial. It can assure you of a reserve against hard times or unexpected events if you stock it well. May it be a natural disaster or job loss, your food pantry can guarantee you that the family will continue to be fed and comfortable.

Keeping Things from Going to Waste

Having an organized pantry in your kitchen can help you make sure to use foods before their expiration dates. If you have multiples of the same products, line them up by date, with the one expiring the soonest in the front to be used first. When all the goods are stored properly, it can save you more time and money in the long run.

How to Organize Your Food Pantry

Clean the shelves and paint them.

In order to protect the shelves and keep them clean, it is best to use adhesive shelving liners. Make sure to store dry ingredients such as sugar and flour in glass jars so that you can see them easily in case you need them. For other goods, use baskets or painted wooden boxes.

Plan your pantry to fit your needs.

Everything in your pantry needs a designated area. You can organize by meal type, alphabetically, or however suits your personal preferences. The same goes for kitchen cabinets if some of your food is stored there.

Store heavier items on the bottom shelves or floor of your pantry.

The bottom shelves or floor in your pantry should be used to store heavy items, such as big juice containers, cases of soda pop, and heavier canned goods.

With the above tips you can avoid buying things you already have simply because you didn’t realize you had them, or forgetting to use foods before they expire.
