Time to Tackle the Closet

The Maids • Mar 29, 2013

Ah, the closet! As the warmer months move in, it'll be time to put away the winter clothes and pull out your summer wardrobe. It's tempting to just throw all of the winter clothes into a box, but if you take a little bit of extra time to really sort through your clothes, both your summer and winter wardrobes will be all the better for it!

Fashion expert Clinton Kelly recently spoke to Lucky Magazine, giving his advice for making a big difference in your closet. Here are a few of his ideas:

Take Everything Out—Everything. Find a central location like your bed, kitchen table, or living room couch and dump all the clothes on it. It's going to be a lot, but do this one time, and every season after it will be a little easier!

Try It All On. This is going to take the longest amount of time, but it will be worth it to nail down exactly what you can wear and what you can't. Kelly's advice? Donate anything that's too small or more than one size too big. Dress the person you are right now, not who you've been or who you want to be! If something is only one size too big, you can consider taking it to a tailor to bring it in until it fits perfectly.

If You Haven't Worn It... It has to go. If you haven't worn that dress or those pants in a year, there's likely a reason. Don't keep things because someone gave them to you or because you might wear it one day—let it go so you have room for the clothes you love

Organize What's Left. Kelly might not be too concerned about the organization part, but putting everything back in your closet in a way that makes sense will make it so much easier for you to find anything you need at any time.

With only the clothes you love and can wear in your closet, you'll feel like you have a brand new wardrobe.
