Easy Tips to Clean Stainless Steel

The Maids • Apr 11, 2014

Stainless steel is a wonderful material with a distinctive shine. Not only does it provide a high end look in terms of kitchen appliances, cutlery and cookware but it is low maintenance. The only challenge of stainless steel is maintaining that lustrous shine and preventing corrosion. Luckily doing so is very simple. Here are easy tips to clean stainless steel.

Warm Water

Before moving on to other cleaning methods try warm water. Most of the time stainless steel can be cleaned with warm water and a gentle cloth. To boost effectiveness use a combination of warm water and a gentle detergent to clean. After cleaning be sure to dry to prevent water spots.

Vinegar

Spraying stainless steel with vinegar helps to clean oil and grease in addition to removing stains from hard water and heat. Simply pour vinegar into a spray bottle, spritz area and wipe with a cloth. When using vinegar, be sure to clean thoroughly after use to prevent film from developing.

Mildly Abrasive Cleaners

For tough to clean dirt, grime or food stains on stainless steel a mildly abrasive cleaner will do the trick. This type of cleaner adds a bit more friction, without scratching to effectively remove any accumulated mess. Powders can provide a good cleaning as well as specialty cleaners.

Rubbing Alcohol

If you notice a sticky film over your stainless steel stove or range head use rubbing alcohol to remove it. This film is a result of grease buildup. Rubbing alcohol cuts the grease and makes stainless steel look like new. Just be sure to rinse off the alcohol with water and dry.

Overall, cleaning stainless steel is easy. Anything from warm water to rubbing alcohol can be used to remove stains and grease to keep stainless steel shiny and new. These easy cleaning techniques can be done in a matter of minutes and require a few simple cleaning items commonly found in the home.
