Excuses We Use to Keep Our Clutter

Written by

Everyone has clutter in their home, but why do we choose to keep it? Why do we consistently make excuses about our clutter, and what are some of the excuses that we make?

The first excuse that tends to be make about the clutter that is messing up our perfect homes: "I'm going to use that one day."

Are you really? Are you really going to use that outdated map one day? Are you really going to wear the jacket that went out of style a couple of decades ago? Do you really need to save that milk jug in case you find a use for it? Is that stack of newspapers really going to be put to use?

More often than not, the excuse that we are going to use our clutter one day is nothing more than that... an excuse.

The second excuse that we use to lay claim to our clutter: "It has sentimental value."

Yes, some items are worth saving because they mean something to us - an art project made by your child in kindergarten, for instance. But not everything needs to be saved. You don't have to save the shirt that your great aunt bought you at a garage sale because it was too cheap to pass up. You don't have to save the pin that was made for grandma but accidentally got left behind at your house. There are items that are truly sentimental, and then there are items that you hold onto just because you don't want to part with your clutter.

Oh, the excuses that we use. It's time to lay those excuses aside. Clutter is clutter, and it's not something that we should continue to hold onto. Get rid of the excuses. Be honest. And then go and clean your house.
