Use Essential Oils for Aromatherapy at Home

Aromatherapy is a special practice which has been around for ages. The practice continues to be popular because people derive a wide range of its benefits. It basically involves use of essential oils extracted from barks, flowers, leaves, seeds, herbs, roots and fruits to mention but a few. Different essential oils from different sources have different uses at home depending on their properties.

Aromatherapy for Cleaning

For almost any type of cleaning needed at home; there are essential oils that can be used together with soaps and detergents. The main purpose is to leave behind calming and uplifting fragrances. Rosemary oil can be added to household soaps and sprays because of its good scent. When cleaning fabrics, you can add some lavender drops to vinegar for a great fabric softener. Rose geranium oil is essential in eradicating pet odor on carpets and furniture. To make a homemade disinfectant, mix lavender and tea tree oils in vinegar and water solution. The mixture kills germs on kitchen and bathroom surfaces while leaving pleasant fragrance.

Aromatherapy for Treatments

Most essential oils have healing effects when it comes to common ailments. With the natural solutions to infections, insect bites and muscle pain, need for over the counter medicines will be reduced. Eucalyptus tops the list in healing congestion, colds and flu as well as inflammation and shingles. Menstrual cramps, sore muscles and even insomnia can be treated with sweet marjoram.

Aromatherapy for Skincare

Some essential; oils can be mixed with your skin cream for different effects. For instance, two drops of rosemary in your skin cream will rewind the aging clock by slowing down effects of wrinkles. You can make body oil by adding 5 drops of your favorite essential oil to 1 teaspoonful of carrier oil such as sesame, jojoba, sweet almond, wheat germ or sunflower oil. These hydrate your skin and give you a relaxing scent. A few drops of basil, cedar wood or lavender sooths an itchy scalp while rosemary adds hair volume. Whichever essential oil you use, ensure it is consumed within a year from the time of opening the bottle for safety purposes.
